| Let's
Learn French is a budget title
from Transparent Language's A+
series - and Transparent sure
knows how to put together a language
program. This is a quality product
and without a doubt the best-value
language program going. It's divided
into 15 lessons, each introducing
you step by step to new words
and grammar concepts and providing
tips to assist your learning.
Every lesson begins with a video
tutor outlining its aims in English.
You then progress through the
lesson at your own pace, repeating
and practicing as much as you
like. You can hear pronunciations
by highlighting a word or a phrase
and a box below shows the English
translation of the segment, word
or phrase in text, as well as
the French word root. |
 |

At the end of every group of five lessons
you complete, you can go to the Transparent
Language Web site to see just how well
you've picked up what's been taught.
All the French is spoken by native speakers,
and you can slow down the speech to
catch every nuance - a great feature
while you are familiarising yourself
with pronunciation, but it does introduce
minor distortion. With the aid of a
microphone (not included), you can record
yourself speaking French, play it back
and then have it compared to the native
speaker through a series of waveform
graphs to further refine your skills.
This program would be particularly valuable
for high school students, travellers
and those with a need for conversational
French in their business dealings. The
program concentrates on dialogue and
has a comprehensive grammar section
in addition to the grammar explanations
that appear onscreen with each exercise.
The CheckWords feature is great innovation
that allows you to create your own personal
vocabulary list of words and phrases,
along with your own notes, that can
be printed out for study away from the
computer or to take on trips. You can
also print out entire lessons.
This program is outstanding, and at
this unbelievably low price, you'll
want to check out some of the other
languages in this range. |
